General reminders:

Homework is assigned every day (Monday-Thursday) and is due the following day. Parents should check agendas every night and sign them so that I will know that you have looked over the homework and observed your child while reading.

Reading is assigned every day (Monday-Thursday) and the completed reading log is due every Friday. Parent signatures or initials are required each night, as well as a brief summary. The back of the reading log contains a multiplication chart up to 12 x 12 which is assigned on Monday and due on Friday. We are shooting for 100% accuracy in 5 minutes or less.

Fridays are generally our testing days. Students can expect to take tests in most academic areas (math, spelling, vocabulary, comprehension, and grammar). There is also a writing prompt on Friday which can be found at the end of the anthology story.

In the event of an absence, students are responsible for writing down what was missed in class (my agenda is always accessible to them), and completing the missing work. Students have as many days as were missed to make up the work.

Friday Folders are sent home each Friday and are due first thing Monday morning with a parent signature. The folders contain all of your child’s work/tests from the previous week and the folder should come back empty (unless a test required a parent signature). The front of the folder is also a running progress report.

Library books should come home daily. Every week 2 new A/R books can be checked out from our Ranch View Library. The books will be in your child’s reading level. Accelerated Reader tests can be taken daily to help students earn the required 30 A/R points each trimester (roughly 10 A/R points each month).

Communication between parents and teachers is key. Therefore please feel free to email me at anytime. I can also be reached at Ranch View at 909-947-5545.

Classroom Rules:
-Keep your hands, feet, and objects to yourself.
-Do not talk when the teacher is talking.
-Raise your hand and wait to be called on before speaking.
-Use equipment properly.
-Show respect to everyone in our classroom.

                        Green: Warning!
Yellow: Miss next recess - Note in agenda
Orange: Time out in another classroom
Red: Conference with parents and Ms. Van Dyk

 Rewards
Beginning the first day of school each student receives a punch card. Punches are given on a daily basis for such things as returning homework, good citizenship, demonstrating good character, and participation in various activities and projects. When the punch card is filled, a new card is issued along with a reward pass.
